Flying Car: is this the future mode of transport?

Everybody love to drive their cars but nobody wants to get stuck in the traffic. But one wouldn’t have this problem if his car is capable of flying. People have dreamt of flying cars for a long time. Right from the early 1950s many scientists have conceptualized and designed their flying car prototypes but none of them came into being.

Most of us have seen the flying car concepts in the news and in some movies. These cars are not designed to look anything like automobiles, but a hybrid between helicopters and jets. We may soon see these cars flying in the sky. A flying car! Yeah and we finally have it.

A San Francisco based start-up Kitty Hawk backed by Google co-founder Larry Page have released a video of their airborne vehicle prototype and they have announced their plans to deliver the personal flying machine by this year end. The Kitty Hawk is an all-electric aircraft that does not require a pilot license to fly it. According to the company the car can travel up to 40 Kilometres per hour.

Another transportation network company Uber also announced their plans of flying taxis which carries passengers. The company plans to launch their flying taxis in US, Dubai and UAE by 2020. Just like the Kitty Hawk, these Uber flying taxis too use electric power. Uber says their flying taxis can travel up to 240 Kilometres an hour. Uber users can use the same Uber app to book their flying taxis.

These flying cars can help you commute easily and can take you pretty much everywhere. They save time and can get you out of all the traffic, stoplights and roadblocks.

On the other side maintaining a flying car is not that easy. It requires a skilled driver. These cars need very efficient motors and control systems to maintain stability during flights. The flying car would eventually fall to the ground if anything goes wrong in the system and thereby causing death to the rider. Bad weather and night conditions can restrict their usage. the risk of accidents can also be higher if you are using it in the city which has lot of buildings and people tend to mess up in the air which would make the traffic even worse.

After all it would be great to see a flying car in the air but it may not be safe for our fellow humans in the sky.
